LA RIBECA
Strumento dal timbro molto acuto, nasce nel medioevo e che assieme al liuto e alla viella costituisce l’insieme strumentale tipico per l'accompagnamento delle musiche di quel periodo. Essa venne costruita sulla falsa riga del rebab di provenienza araba importato in Spagna dagli arabi intorno al VIII secolo. Le prime notizie di questo strumento si trovano in vari manoscritti dei primi anni del XIV secolo e in alcune opere pittoriche, specialmente fiamminghe, coeve. Si fece largamente uso della ribeca durante tutto il medioevale e nel rinascimento. Esso era costruito in diverse taglie che producevano suoni di timbro diverso.

THE REBEC
The rebec dates back to the middle ages and was particularly popular in the 15th and 16th centuries. The instrument is European, but was derived from the Arabic-Islamic instrument, the rebab. We have the firsts notices by manuscripts of the XIV century and by some contemporary pictures with it, flamish especially. The rebec was used during all the middle age and in the renaissance. It had different size with different tuning.
